MV `Asperity': P Newland awarded BEM and M Maclellan posthumously awarded Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct for attempting to rescue J McGee after falling in oil-covered waters at Flaaringden, Rotterdam.

Includes 2 photographs depicting: Ordinary seamen Peter Newlands collecting the British Empire Medal for gallantry, having attempted to rescue two shipmates from the water at Vlaardingen Holland, 6 Feb 1955. His award presented by A S C Hulton, Managing Director of Shell Tankers Ltd. Dated 1955.
