Description:

This series consists of miscellaneous correspondence and papers accumulated by the Secretariat of the Committee of Imperial Defence concerning various matters dealt with by the Committee, and by its principal Sub-committees, during the period 1902-1918. There are also a few miscellaneous papers of the War Council, Dardenelles Committee and War Committee after 1916. Additionally, the series includes papers prepared for the Colonial and Imperial conferences of 1907 and 1909.

Topics covered include: army and naval matters of home and colonial defence and those pertaining to the defence of India; issues dealt with by the Air Board; foreign relations and alliances; press, cable and wireless censorship; the treatment of enemy ships in time of war; Mesopotamia, policy in the Middle East and memoranda on imperial co-operation by L S Amery.
