Dr Cheddi Berret JAGAN / Janet Rosalie JAGAN: British. Husband and wife and leading political figures in British Guiana (Guyana) before and after Independence. They were founding members of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), and strong Communist sympathizers with close links to Communist Party members and associated organisations in the UK and the Soviet Bloc. The JAGANs' Communist-related activity including efforts to raise funds and other materiel support from Russia, Cuba, etc and were viewed by the British Government as serious threats. These files focus largely on Cheddi JAGAN's political activities and contacts during frequent visits to the UK during the 1950s
