A communist from the early 1930s, Dorothy GALTON worked as secretary to Sir Bernard PARES and then as an administrator at the School of Slavonic Studies at London University. She visited the Soviet Union on several occasions and was said to have been instructed by the Party to abandon political work in favour of unspecified special research. She was suspected of talent-spotting among Army language students at the School
