Samuel WANAMAKER / Charlotte Holland WANAMAKER, alias Charlotte HOLLAND: American. A member of the Communist Party in the USA from 1944 to 1947 and involved with organisations cited by the Committee on Un-American Activities, the actor and director Sam WANAMAKER arrived in the UK in 1951 with his wife, also a communist and an actress. Their forthcoming arrival was communicated to the Communist Party of Great Britain but in the UK the WANAMAKERS were careful not to become involved with communist activities and in 1957 were granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK
