Books transferred from the chambers of Master Sir John Charles Fox, who served in the Chancery Division of the High Court from 1891 until 1921. The series does include material generated by his predecessors and inherited by him. The predecessors of Master John Charles Fox (1891-1921) in his role as a Master/Chief Clerk were Master Edward Shearme (1875-1890), Master John Arthur Buckley (1863-1874) and, for causes with initial letters O-Z, Master Charles Pugh (1852-1862).
This series also contains papers from the chambers of Master Joseph Henry Pollock Chitty (1910-1935) and his predecessors Master Spencer Whitehead (1897-1909), Master Henry Baldwin Raven (1896), Master Alfred Rawlinson (1870-1895) and, for causes with initial letters A-F, Master Frederick Erasmus Edwards (1852-1869).
This series also contains papers from the chambers of Master Henry Douglas Hughes-Onslow (1908-1929) and his predecessors Master Edmund William Walker (1874-1907), Master Henry Pritchard (1869-1872) and, for causes with initial letters G-K, Master Frederick Erasmus Edwards (1852-1869); and for causes with initial letters L-N, Master John Arthur Buckley (1863-1874) and Master Charles Pugh (1852-1862) .
Almost without exception the records originated with the three masters' predecessors.
The books arise mainly from business in connection with the making of court orders. Also included is material concerning accounts in suits and company winding-up matters, and a 19th century register of testators and intestates.
