Miscellaneous warrant books, comprising: Special Commissions: for seizing pirates (addressed to commanders of East India Company's ships proceeding to India and the Far East), 1768 to 1827; and for determining prizes, in hostilities with Russia, China and Japan successively (addressed to the Board of Admiralty), 1854 to 1863. Lords Justices' warrants, 1821; lists of instruments sent for royal signature, 1822 to 1830; almsmen's warrant book, 1750 to 1960; Secretary of State's warrants of appointment, 1888 to 1967. During the First World War many of these warrants were entered in the various series of Entry Books. An internal index also exists.
