Records of Local Government Branches and DivisionsHLG 11852-1927Local Government Board and predecessors and successor: Local Authorities, Registered Files (O Series)
Files of correspondence of the General Board of Health, the Local Government Act Office of the Home Office, and the Local Government Board with local authorities relating to many aspects of local government and environmental health services. These files were arranged under local authorities, and re-registered under the Ministry of Health system as O (i.e.'old') files, identified by local authority number, subject number and file number. In some cases they continued in use in the Ministry of Health for some time after 1919. The papers in this series and in HLG 46 represent the main series of Local Government Board records for the period 1900 to 1919 which survived destruction through enemy action at Elstree in 1941 and fire at Brighton in 1944.
