E 312c1509-c1558Court of Augmentations and Exchequer, Pipe Office: Leases and Offices Surrendered to the Crown
Deeds which relate to the surrender of leases and offices into the Court of Augmentations.
Many of the deeds are subscribed or endorsed with the details of surrender, albeit often without a date. The original grants thus surrendered were made either by the Crown in the Court of Augmentations or, in a few cases, in Chancery; or by the General Surveyors of Crown lands; or by private individuals whose land or interest in land had since become vested in the Crown, for example by the dissolution of the monasteries, gilds and chantries, or by attainder.
All the documents once bore seals; only a few, including some of private individuals and institutions, have survived.
Includes records otherwise in Division in E: Records of the Pipe Office.
