E 1841798Exchequer: King's Remembrancer: Receivers' Accounts of Land and Assessed Taxes, Selected Parchment Duplicates
In 1798 the quota payable by each parish on the land and assessed taxes became perpetual and redeemable, and remained so until 1949. The parchment duplicates in this series, of assessments for England and Monmouthshire, are absolute evidence of the amount payable, and this explains their survival. Where the assessment for 1798 was missing, one from a preceding year was substituted.
