Records of the King's RemembrancerE 178c1558-c1901Exchequer: King's Remembrancer: Special Commissions of Inquiry
Commissions of inquiry, with the returns, relating to concealed lands, the possessions of persons attainted and of debtors to the Crown, encroachments and intrusions, tithes, woods, marshlands, sea-banks, mills, the boundaries of ports, and so on, and abound with legal and topographical information.
The original inquisitions and returns, dating from 1626-32, of the names of the persons fined for neglecting to appear at the coronation of Charles I and take up the order of knighthood are also in this series. So too are the returns of the special commissioners appointed to compound with the purchasers of land sold during the Commonwealth, all of which sales were declared void immediately after the Restoration.
