Records of the King's RemembrancerE 113c1660-c1685Exchequer, King's Remembrancer: Bills and Answers Against Defaulting Accountants
Equity proceedings on English Bills or Informations exhibited after the Restoration by the Attorney General to compel the defendants to account for public monies received during the Civil War and Commonwealth, accountability for which was not pardoned by the Act of Indemnity and Oblivion.
They relate to taxes and assessments of all sorts imposed under the Commonwealth, and also to monies raised by the Royalist as well as the Parliamentarian side in the Civil War, sequestered estates, and alleged embezzlement of the goods of the King and Royal Family. Many proceedings relate to appropriated tithes, seized under various Acts and Ordinances, especially the Act for the Propagation of the Gospel in Wales. Bills relating to these were exhibited by the Attorney General on behalf of bishops or other ecclesiastical persons.
