DL 43c1216-c1972Duchy of Lancaster: Rentals and Surveys
This series contains a number of different types of manorial survey documents for lands that belonged to the Duchy of Lancaster.
The most common types of documents are custumals, extents, rentals, surveys, terriers and valors. Some of these records provide the names of tenants, the lands they held, the rents they owed, and the nature of the services due to the lord. Others describe the many different types of land and property which made up the manor, their size and condition, and the amount that each was worth.
The series includes some miscellaneous documents, such as lists relating to a single source of revenue or group of tenants, and material from which the final survey records were constructed, such as field books of surveyors' working notes.
