This series consists of the minutes, memoranda and papers of ad hoc sub-committees appointed by the Committee of Imperial Defence (CID). There are also records of some of the permanent sub-committees of the CID.
Subjects addressed by these committees and sub-committees were highly significant to preparations for war and to the inter-war period as a whole, and include: defence plans and defence policy, the Burney Airship Scheme, air defence research, disarmament, the defence of India, food supply and the supply of raw materials, the Palestine Garrison, and security, propaganda in foreign countries and the establishment of a Ministry of Information.
