Folio(s) 20-21. Letter from William E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. Letter enclosing a resolution passed by the guardians on 27 December 1855. The letter states that the guardians are desirous of a further guardian being elected for the parish of Sutton in Ashfield next Lady Day. The letter contained a list of the 18 parishes and statistics, within the union area. The parishes listed are Blackwell, Glapwell, Ault Hucknall, Upper Langwith, South Normanton, Pinxton, Pleasley, Scarcliff, Tibshelf, Blidworth, Hucknall-under-Huthwaite, Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Skegby, Sokeholme, Sutton in Ashfield, Teversal and Warsop. The enclosed resolution points out that in comparison with other parishes in the union area, Sutton in Ashfield is under represented in relation to it's population. They ask for an increase from two to three guardians as from Lady Day.Annotated: the grounds stated are sufficient to justify the Board to issue an order for the appointment of a third guardian for the parish of Sutton in Ashfield, to come force at the next election.
