  • WO 351775-1923War Office: Army of Ireland: Administrative and Easter Rising Records

This series contains some records of the general administration of the Army in Ireland, including the grant of army commissions, from 1775; letter books of the Lord Lieutenant relating to military affairs, 1788-1822, with detailed abstracts of correspondence in and out for 1801 and letterbooks of the Adjutant General's Office, 1803-1881.

Most of the records in the series relate to the maintenance of law and order in Ireland by the military authorities from the Easter Rising of 1916 to the Irish Peace Treaty of 1922, with some earlier material relating to the threat of mutiny at the Curragh camp. They include war diaries; raid and search reports; records relating to powers granted under the Restoration of Order in Ireland Act, 1920 to arrest and try civilians and hold courts of enquiry in lieu of inquests, and a series of Dublin Castle files on prominent Irish nationalists.
