Plea Side RecordsKB 1581572-1661Court of King's Bench: Plea Side: Cedule per Recogniciones Files
These are files of special bails, usually and later always signed by a justice, which were created at Michaelmas 1572 to separate special bails, which required real and substantial sums of money for bail, from the more numerous common bails, which did not. The latter continued to be filed in the Cedule Communes files (KB 149), in which the earlier special bails are to be found. Special bails were usually, and later always, signed by a justice, and carry a superb set of judges autographs. The series continues until 1660, after which the files were destroyed under schedule.
