Petitioners: John Fitz Hugh of Fairford, or John de Fayreford (Fairford), son of Hugh de Fayreford (Fairford).

Nature of request: [This petition is badly faded] The petitioner makes five complaints:1) He states that he had leased certain mills in Fairford from the Earl of Gloucester, but that William de Kauresham, John le Burgeys and Walter Love (?) disturbed the water leading to one of those mills so that he lost the profit of that mill but the rent was still demanded of him. He requests a remedy.2) He states that he had also leased a meadow and other tenements from the earl, and, because his rent was in arrears and he could not pay, he offered the earl's bailiffs the hay from the meadow towards the payment, but the bailiffs would neither accept it nor allow him to use it to his advantage, so that the meadow remains unmown, to his great harm. He requests a remedy.3) He states that while he was riding in that meadow, William de Kauresham, David le Messer and John Durhing took him by force to Fairford and impounded the horse there; and they imprisoned John's men who came to feed it. He then took horses from the vill, to his great harm, but the same bailiffs came and chased them off: and the hue and cry was raised for this. He requests a remedy.4) He states that Richard de Stanford and William his clerk took his ploughs and impounded them, so that he has not been able to plough his land for two years.5) He states that a horse taken by William de Kauresham for a debt he could not pay has died in William's custody. He requests a remedy.
