The files in this series originated in the Ministry of Health and, from November 1951, in the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. From May to November 1951 the files were held by the short-lived Ministry of Local Government and Planning.

Files in this series deal with subjects of an extremely miscellaneous character not readily assigned to, or cutting across, the various subject series of files in use in these departments. Among the more important subjects covered are the post-war building and civil engineering national programme, law and standardization, distribution of industry and industrial population, disposal of requisitioned land, post war economy and relations with the council of Europe. list contains a subject index.
