Other matters dealt with include welfare, exchange, repatriations, escapes, deaths, etc.

A Consular (War) Department, soon renamed the Prisoners of War Department, was established early in the Second World War to deal with British and enemy prisoners of war and interned civilians, and with the care of British subjects and property in enemy and enemy-occupied territories.
