This series contains registered files of the Consular (War) Department, later the Prisoners of War Department. Comprises reports from various sources on prisoners of war and internment camps, etc, in enemy and enemy occupied countries and on the treatment of British subjects both military and civilian. Other matters dealt with include welfare, exchange, repatriations, escapes, deaths, etc.
FO 916/1469-2566 are numbers not used.

A Consular (War) Department, soon renamed the Prisoners of War Department, was established early in the Second World War to deal with British and enemy prisoners of war and interned civilians, and with the care of British subjects and property in enemy and enemy-occupied territories.
