Description:

The original forms of application for the registration of proprietorship at Stationers' Hall under the Copyright Acts in force from 1842 to 1912, together with memoranda of assignments, minutes of consent, etc. In the case of paintings and drawings, photographs, commercial labels and advertisements, a print is usually annexed to the form; in that of literary works, a copy of the title page or cover or similar means of identification will sometimes be found.

There is an index to entries in the registers (COPY 3) for photographs of identified individuals. Volume I of this gives the date of registration and volume II gives references to COPY 3. COPY 1 references may be obtained by finding the item that contains the application forms for the appropriate registration date. However not all application forms in COPY 1 have a photograph attached. Please speak to staff at the enquiry desk for the precise location of the index.
