Details of C 32
Reference: C 32
Title: Court of Chancery: Cause Books
Description:

The volumes in this series contain the names of all parties and their solicitors involved in each cause in Chancery.

The cause books act as an overview of each cause (dispute or suit), as they record dates of appearances and documents filed, together with a brief reference to any decrees and orders, reports and certificates made by the court during the course of proceedings. They are thus a very valuable guide as to what to look for among other records of the Chancery court.

The references are those assigned to each cause in the bill book, which now forms part of the individual ordering reference number for each cause, together with the year of filing - e.g. 1846 A1, 1852 I/J26. Some of these are found in the catalogue, others still have to be searched for in the bill books in IND 1.

The books are arranged and listed chronologically under the initial letter of plaintiffs' names.
