Each volume presents surnames of the deceased in alphabetical order. Pieces 5 and 6 concern the War of 1914-1918.

The Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen was created in 1872 and became the Registry of Shipping and Seamen in 1992. Details of sub-departmental administration concerning these records have not survived.
