This series contains registered files used by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools in Wales. The series was probably set up during the 1970s after responsibility for the Inspectorate had passed to the Welsh Office, though many of the papers on the files predate this.

The files contain information on the functions and organisation of the Inspectorate, instructions to the inspectors, records of their annual conferences at which much of the day to day policy was determined, and matters relating to teaching through the medium of Welsh.
