Admiralty, and Ministry of Defence, Navy Department: Submarine Logs
This series consists of the logs of HM submarines from 1914. They are a comprehensive record of all wheel, telegraph and depth keeping orders, together with information on battery charges, firing of torpedoes, and navigational fixes etc.
They were kept on a continuous rather than monthly basis as with the ships' logs. They were maintained by someone who was usually otherwise engaged in either steering or depth keeping, so abbreviations tend to proliferate. Many of these logs are enhanced by either cryptic comments of "matelots humour" or drawings/cartoons of topical interest.
