Navy Board and Admiralty: Office of the Controller of the Navy and predecessors: Ships' Books (Series I)
These volumes consist of reports and other papers giving the history of the maintenance of a ship (hull, machinery and armament) from construction to disposal; in some cases details of complements are also given. The earliest ships' books consist of bound volumes and Series I contains the surviving books of this type.
