War Office: Service Medal and Award Rolls Index, First World War
This series comprises microfiche copies produced at the Army Medal Office, Droitwich, of that office's alphabetical card indexes to recipients of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Medal, the 1914 Star (also known as the Mons Star), the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal, the Allied Victory Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Silver War Badge for Services Rendered, the Territorial Force War Medal and the Allied Subjects Medal. Also included are indexes to mentions in despatches and women's services' awards.
Since microfilming the index cards in September 1985, the Army Medal Office has authorized the award of a further small number of officers' medals within the original eligibility terms.
Please Note: Digital copies of the First World War medal index cards can be searched and downloaded; copies of the medal index cards of over 20,000 soldiers who served in the Indian Army (WO 372/25-29) were made available in July 2008 and can also be searched and downloaded.
