War Office: Orders of Battle and Organisation Tables
This series contains the orders of battle and organization tables of all headquarters, formations and units of the British army serving at home and overseas during the Second World War. They are numbered papers in the War Office A series.
The series also contains extracts from orders of battle, piece numbers 491 to 514 for the Second World War and 693 to 700 for earlier and subsequent operations. These give the overseas locations of units during the relevant conflict and are a useful tracing guide to the war diaries.
All papers marked with security grades have now been declassified.
Pieces 1 to 692 are arranged geographically in the order United Kingdom, followed by North West Europe and then the overseas commands in alphabetical order.
