War Office: British and Allied Land Forces, South East Asia: War Diaries, Second World War
This series contains the daily records of events, reports on operations, intelligence summaries, etc, of formations and units of British forces, including East and West African Forces, who served in Burma, Ceylon, Hong Kong, India and Malaya.
Due to enemy action in Malaya and Hong Kong, many of the original war diaries were lost for the period 1939 to 1942, but, for the majority of formations and units, diaries were produced in narrative form at a later date, and these are included.
War diaries of formations and units stationed in India, including those of the Indian Army, were not kept separately, and will be found under the heading 'Burma'.
The series is arranged by theatres of operations, initially covering the period 1939-1942, then by years from 1943 onward.
