Registers recording payments of superannuation and retired allowances to staff of Public Departments, Commissions, Convict Establishments, etc.

The series also contains records of compensation paid under the Workmen's Compensation Patent Law Amendment and the Copyright Acts and in respect of abolished offices in the Courts of Justice etc; and some records of salaries paid by the Treasury and Office of the Paymaster of Civil Services, and of extraordinary expenses of Ministers abroad, and annuities arising from the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1912.

Arrangement:

From 1870 the volumes are arranged broadly in alphabetical order of departments and each volume contains an index of persons. Pensioners retired from Scottish Offices and paid by the Queen's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer, Edinburgh, are, from 1879 entered in separate volumes, which also contain records of all Gratuities, commutation annuities and (from 1899) particulars of the salaries and fees paid to medical referees. The pensioners of the Convict Establishment and Convict Prisons are also generally entered in separate volumes.
