Brendan Francis BEHAN: Irish. The playwright, BEHAN, first came to the Security Service's notice when he attempted to enter the UK in 1939 with a forged travel permit and was returned to Eire in 1941 after a period of detention under the Explosive Substances Act. In 1942 he was sentenced in Dublin to 14 years' imprisonment for attempted murder
